How companies and organisations manage road safety is a key indicator for many investors. More than ever, investors want to know that the investment will be looked after, protecting assets, people and the environment.

Managing Road Safety in Emerging Markets was written to support British International Investment (Formally CDC Group) and its Stakeholder Partners (PIDG, SIFEM, FMO and PROPARCO as a guide for Investors who wish to improve road safety in Investees, Senior Management teams of Investee companies as well as HSE / Journey Management and compliance professionals.

Safe Driving Program (Scotland)

A Scottish Government department recognised the need to train all of the staff who drive for them on business, this includes both those who's job it is to drive as well as those who may drive on an ad-hoc basis. This meets the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act  which places a duty of care on employers.

In total there were over 250 staff that required some form of intervention to meet the employers legal requirement, further complicated by the Covid Pandemic and the limitations that were created as a result of it.

In the first year of operation, the department saved significant amounts in direct costs associated with fuel and maintenance costs as well as reducing its carbon footprint by a measurable amount.

The program is ongoing.

Global Journey Management System

Shell Qatar had been looking for a solution to help manage its road risk exposure through journey management - the process of moving goods or people by scheduling and executing road transport safely and efficiently.

As a subject matter expert in this field, I was tasked with supporting the development and implementation of a proof of concept project, to improve driver behaviours, route and vehicle compliance and ensuring that journeys are executed within the agreed parameters.

The project resulted in Shell Qatar adopting the process and systems before the proof of concept project had been completed.

Logistics Centre of Excellence (Iraq)

Iraq is not a place where most people would consider setting up a skills centre, yet the reality is that it is very much needed.

Working alongside Agility Global Integrated Logistics (Now part of DSV) I helped set up a Centre of Excellence Training Facility in Basra Province.

The centre successfully operated providing a range of training covering

Defensive Driver Training

FLT Courses

HSE Courses

The centre stopped operating when Agility GIL was sold to DSV in 2021.
